Mimesis – A Deceptive Game
The carnival in Cologne, Germany exists since 1823. About one million people crowded the streets.
In the flow of movement, dark masses, bizarre situations, shadowy portraits and questionable details oscillate between the real and the fictional.
In the threshold area – in this mimetic desire – it is almost impossible for the outside observer to distinguish everyday life from the state of emergency or between the people of the everyday life and the masked ones. And for the locals it is possible to meander through the Cologne Carnival without really noticing it. For them it is everyday life and a completely normal situation.
The photographs were taken between 2011 and 2016.
